Three New Miles of Trail at Moore Creek Park

July 9, 2019

An avid group of local mountain bikers recently pooled together a sizable donation with the generous goal of creating new trails on the Hennessey Unit of Moore Creek. Redwood Empire Mountain Bike Alliance (REMBA) handled the financial transaction and put the NOSD in touch with a crew of outstanding trail builders, and after a winter of incessant rain and a spring full of fields of dense poison oak, we are happy announce that two new trails are completed and ready for hikers, cyclists, and equestrians!
The two trails are Whiskey Ridge Trail and Conn Peak Trail. The recommended route to try them out is to park in the main area of Moore Creek Park and head out Chile’s Creek Trail to access the Hennessy Unit. On your right you will see a sign for Whiskey Ridge and the trail will take you on a lovely mile long single track climb up to Alta Hennessey Trail. If you continue going straight ahead as you leave Whisky Ridge, you cross Alta Hennessey and start on Conn Peak Trail which is also single track but has climbs and descents. A little under a mile in there is a spur trail to the right which will take you to the summit of Conn Peak. After you have taken in the spectacular views, head back down the spur trail and take a right to continue on Conn Peak Trail. After a little over a mile of twists and turns, Conn Peak Trail intersects and terminates with Old Man’s Beard. For a really fun bike ride, continue on Old Man’s Beard all the way to Shoreline Trail then head up Sam the Eagle, to Alta Hennessey, then back down Whisky Ridge.
We hope you get out and enjoy the new trails and we would really like to thank our benefactors for their generous donation and REMBA for their support.
