Berryessa Peak Trail

This eight mile (sixteen mile round trip) hiking trail, made possible with the donation of a trail easement by a local ranching family, provides public access to several thousand acres of otherwise shut-off public lands owned by the federal government. The trail offers dramatic views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the east, Mt. St. Helena and the Mayacamas Range to the west, Snow Mountain to the north, and Mt. Diablo to the south.

One of the more challenging hikes in Napa County, this trail climbs 3,500 feet to Berryessa Peak with beautiful scenic views along the way. Please see the hike notes and advisories below before planning this hike and visit Tuleyome’s page to see a detailed hike description.

The Napa Open Space District has partnered with Tuleyome and Yolo Hiker to improve and manage this trail & we’ve provided links to both of their websites below with full trail descriptions and maps.

Hike Notes

This hike is a very challenging hike in backcountry areas. Please be aware that the route is 7.25 miles one way with an elevation gain of 3,500 feet. There are no amenities and no potable water on this trail, so please plan accordingly and bring plenty of food, water, and supplies for your trip out.

The trail passes through Knoxville State Wildlife Area, Bureau of Land Management and Department of Fish & Wildlife lands, and private property using public easements. Please use maps and your GPS to remain on the trail at all times. We want to be good neighbors, so please do not trespass.

The trailhead is on Berryessa Knoxville Road at mile marker 20.00 (East side of the road) and those that hike all the way to the peak will be rewarded with stunning views.

Please note again that this is a very challenging hike. Only those in peak physical condition that have a good working understanding of maps and backcountry hiking should attempt to reach the summit.
