Current Status of Parks & Trails 3/3/25
All parks not listed below are currently open for normal use.
Bothe-Napa Valley State Park – CAL FIRE and California State Parks staff will be conducting prescribed burns at Bothe-Napa Valley State Park this week. This weeks planned burns will focus on Ritchey Canyon Trail and behind the park visitor center.
Moore Creek Park –Please be aware of some modest storm damage on trails. Valentine Vista Trail has several small slides that are passable. NOSD staff is aware of these and will be making repairs soon.
Oat Hill Mine Trail – Please be aware of storm damage on the trail between Calistoga and Holm’s Place. There are several significant slides and places with erosion damage that are passable but warrant caution. NOSD staff is evaluating these areas for repair.
RLS State Park: Parking on the Table Rock side (east side) of the highway is closed temporarily but the Table Rock Trail remains open. Please avoid parking on that side while Caltrans crews continue repairs from recent storm damage. Limited parking is available on the Mt St Helena side (west) of the highway.
Suscol Headwaters Park – The access trail through Skyline Wilderness Park is closed temporarily because of excessive water saturation from recent storms.
Berryessa Peak Trail – There is a landslide approximately 4 miles into the trail that has partially blocked access to the remaining 2 miles. The trail is passable with some scrambling through the damaged section, but does require sure footing. We hope to have repairs made on this trail soon, but rugged terrain and weather may make this a challenging repair.
Golden Mussel Advisories Affecting Boating in Napa County
Golden Mussels have recently been discovered in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, the first known occurrence of this invasive species in North America. This type of mussel can survive in waters that have considerably lower calcium levels than needed for the other invasive species and are incredibly difficult to eradicate once established. They are also easily transported on boats or watercraft, so local agencies are implementing safeguards to hopefully keep them out of our lakes.
The Bureau of Reclamation has formalized protocols for launching at Lake Berryessa with an inspection/seal program that has a 30 day quarantine. See BOR’s notice for details: https://www.usbr.gov/newsroom/news-release/5031
The City of Napa has closed the boat launch at Lake Hennessey until further notice and no boats are allowed on the lake. See the City of Napa notice here: https://www.cityofnapa.org/580/Lake-Hennessey-Boating-Fishing
