The COVID-19 health emergency is an unprecedented event and is an evolving situation here in Napa County and around the nation. Below are updates about Napa County Regional Park & Open Space District properties and activities. We will continue to update information as any details change.
Currently, Napa County has issued a shelter in place order beginning 12:01am on 3/20/20 and continuing through 11:59pm on 4/7/20 or until extended/rescinded. Included in the shelter in place order is specific mention that residents are allowed “To engage in outdoor activity, provided the individuals comply with Social Distancing Requirements . . . . such as, by way of example and without limitation, walking, hiking, or running”.
Below are the current updates and status of NOSD parks and activities. Please check back here as we will update all activities and parks as new information becomes available.
Items of Note:
- All trails are open and available for public use. There is ample evidence that getting outside in nature and adding exercise to our daily routines has enormous benefits to our mental and physical health. Walking/hiking, running and riding is allowed and encouraged as long as parks users are following specific social distancing guidelines (see below).
- The 3rd Saturday hike scheduled for March has been postponed.
- Camping has been temporarily closed at Bothe Park.
- Camping has been temporarily closed at Skyline Wilderness Park.
- Bale Grist Mill is closed for tours and docent-led activities.
- We are planning on maintaining public facilities such as restrooms and drinking fountains as long as possible, but our ability to safely continue this may change.

Safely Using Parks & Social Distancing Requirements:
We encourage everyone to use parks and trails but want to underscore the need to do so safely. Please bring water and hand sanitizer with you to the parks/trails and be aware that restroom facilities and water fountains may not be in service.
Please also follow best practices for social distancing so that we can all keep one another as safe as possible:
- Please do not congregate in parking lots or at trailheads unnecessarily
- Maintain at least 6 feet of distance between yourself and other parks users
- Wash hands for at least 20 seconds and/or use hand sanitizer
- Cover coughs and sneezes with your elbow or sleeve (not into your hands)
- Do not shake hands or make contact with others
- Regularly clean any frequently touched surfaces
We appreciate everyone’s support and cooperation as we move through this event together as a community. We hope that trails and parks are able to be used by everyone and provide some comfort and healthy outlet for us all as we move ahead.
Updates and new details will be posted to the website here and our social media channels as they become available.
